Sonya Harrell joined the General Counsel’s Office in June 2016. Prior to joining the Office of General Counsel, Ms. Harrell worked at the City of Jacksonville Beach as a Special Magistrate. Prior to the City of Jacksonville Beach, Ms. Harrell was an Associate Professor of Law at Florida Coastal School of Law teaching a variety of classes including Florida Practice and Procedure, Florida Constitutional Law, State and Local Government, Torts, Evidence and Insurance and Professional Responsibility. Previous to Florida Coastal School of Law, Ms. Harrell was an attorney at Marks Gray, P.A., where she practiced in state and federal trial and appellate courts, representing and advising governmental, corporate and insurance clients.
Ms. Harrell received a Bachelor of Science, in Political Science from Florida State University in 1990. She obtained a Juris Doctor, from Stetson, in 1994. In July 2015, she received her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from the University of North Florida.
Attorney Harrell is member of the United State Supreme Court, Florida Bar, Board Certified as a Specialist in Appellate Practice (2004-2009; emeritus status 2009-2013) and the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida.
Attorney Harrell is a volunteer, Sanctuary on 8th Street, Jacksonville, Florida; Sustainer, Junior League of Jacksonville and a member of the PRS Triathlon Club.
