Mayor Curry speaks on launching cure violence in Jacksonville
When I took the oath of office four years ago, I made a commitment to the people of Jacksonville to do everything in my power as mayor to make Jacksonville a safer city.Since then, I’ve worked hand-in-hand with Sheriff Williams, State Attorney Nelson and others on budgets, tools, programs and strategies that support improved enforcement, prevention and intervention efforts.
In the past few years we’ve made significant investments in increased manpower and innovative technologies and programs to enhance our enforcement efforts. This includes things like ShotSpotter, NIBIN, the Real-Time Crime Center and the newly opened Crime Gun Intelligence Center.
But we’ve also made efforts to address the root causes of crime to prevent violence from occurring in the first place.
Tomorrow, we're launching another important component in our comprehensive strategy to redcue gun violence in our city: Cure Violence. This program, and its public health-based model has demonstrated success in cities like Chicago, New York, Baltimore and London.
Please take a moment to watch this quick video with an update about this new and innvoative program coming to our city.
